The Balloon Fiesta is dubbed as one of the largest in Europe – perhaps world? It certainly was a large spectacle of hot air balloons. The event takes place mid August in Bristol and is planned again this year but details are not yet out.
It takes place at Ashton Court Estate which boasts an impressive ‘house’ and extensive grounds. We only stuck to the grounds of which were bustling. there is a large space for the balloons, although they do pack them in. Around this are craft markets and food stands. As usual, there is the typical fun fair. Despite the funfair and food stand aspect, it was a really fun afternoon/ evening. The food stands were varied and offered great choices. The kids loved the rides – some classic/ old fashioned and other more modern and we got a great spot on the embankment to watch the balloons.
Its a slow process and it seems that the balloons don’t stop coming out to set up. It makes for a leisurely evening. Not sure how many we saw in the end but more than enough for an impressive sight. All shapes and sizes too.
I believe on some nights there are fireworks. We didn’t get to see these but I have heard they are good.
For anyone thinking about going this year, I would highly recommend. It’s certainly a fun, unique day out with the kids.
